 Gary and Margaret Kraisinger are native Kansans who have a passion for the Old West. Descendant's of Kansas homesteaders, they read, research, write, collect, and live Kansas  and Old West history. It is no wonder, then, when Margaret retired from teaching school after twenty-two years, she became the owner and operator of The Old Hardware Store, an 1878 structure on the Main Street of their home town, Halstead, Kansas.
They are the parents of three grown children and grandparents to six grandchildren.
They have published two books: Freedom in the Wilderness, (1986) a family genealogy, and The Western, the Greatest Texas Cattle Trail, 1874-1886 (2004). They are currently writing a sequel to their 2004 book.
Most of the time, Margaret can be found at her historic store, which she restored in 1998-99, while Gary tends to the farm — when he is not doing research or preparing one of his cattle trail maps.
